Music and Why Does Summer go so Fast?

Tonight we went to Barnes and Nobles. Joe wanted to look for a CD and we thought Maizie might enjoy listening to some music and "choosing out" her own CD.

Maizie became enthralled in the process of scanning, scrolling through and listening to every song. Maizie began a pile of Barbie music, Disney music, Miley Cyrus and a few country mixes. After much consideration she decided on Vanessa Hudgens. I listened to clips of Vanessa's music and must say I was not impressed. I tried talking her into anything but that. The more I pressured her to choose a different one the more she wanted Vanessa's music. When will I ever learn? It is possible that I can't appreciate tweeny music anymore.

Thank goodness for Maizie's Mp3 player.

My mind is frazzled this week. I am thinking about 'trying to get organized' for homeschooling. No progress yet which is making me feel a tad panicked. Everywhere we go people ask Maizie when she goes back to school. Maizie mumbles, "Homeschool". The stores are buzzing with moms helping their kids gather school supplies. It is always a strange feeling not purchasing anything for 'back to school'. I think Maizie is relieved not to be a part of that action.

We sent a large bag of toys and clothes for the Good Will today. It seems that over night Maizie has been outgrowing clothes and anything "babyish". Her opinion on what is babyish and what is not can be quite confusing. There are some toys and games she is not yet ready to part with. Thank goodness. I can't handle too much growing up all at once.

Summer is moving by too quickly. I want it all to slow down...way down.

Thank you again for taking the time to check out Maizie's blog and comment. I will be sending invites to those people who requested access once I turn it back to 'private'.

Tween Music Every Day and I Love It!

Today we went to the dentist. Maizie had her teeth cleaned and did fantastic. I am so proud of her. She wears these big ol' sunglasses to keep out the "sun" as she calls it. I can't help put giggle when I see her lean back in the big banana chair with her sunglasses on. The dentist said everything is looking real good, no cavities. Yes! We do have to see an orthodontist by Spring though. I know...you have heard me say I needed to take her to see an orthodontist months ago. I have put it off. I don't want to pay for it and we are dealing with so many other medical issues it seems lower on the totem pole. But, by Spring we definitely have to go since her canine teeth are not coming down and worse they have no where to go even if they did want to come down. At least now I know for sure that her teeth are not the cause of any migraines. So, in the Spring we have to make a plan how to get those little fangs out!

Maizie has a new interest right now. She has always loved listening to music but now she has begun her very own collection. Currently, she is into Hannah Montana and The Cheetah Girls. We agreed to purchase her these two CD's and I can not believe how much she enjoys listening to them. The lyric sheets are her favorite part. In the car she sings along with the music while reading the lyrics. Awesome! She bounces around the house "whisper singing" Hannah's songs. It is so cute. To be honest, I did not think we would reach this developmental milestone for a few more years. Suddenly, here she is...singing princess pop music. I must admit that I am beyond thrilled! It is kinda sad that she is growing up, but hey....she is growing up and showing an interest in a few of the things other girls her age enjoy! Very cool!I was teasing her at dinner tonight...very mildly since she totally does not like being teased. She never has enjoyed teasing since she does not understand its subtleties. I was asking her to explain to me who Hanna Montana is and who Miley Cyrus is. Maizie explained it in only a way Maizie could. It was music to my ears. I wish I could have tape recorded her every word since it was just thrilling to hear her explaining something to me in such detail, confusing detail but detail nonetheless. I pretend I don't get that the alter ego of Miley Cyrus is Hannah Montana and she shakes her head in disgust and says, "Oh...mom...I will try and help you understand." Adorable. I then tried to explain to her that Miley Cyrus's real name is Destiny Hope. Woah there Marla! Slow down! Maizie was not happy when I said that. Okay! Okay!

A DVD came with the Hannah CD and Maizie was watching it with awe. When Miley began performing Maizie said, "Why is everyone gathering around her and being so excited?" The discussion of fame and fans was a very difficult concept to explain. As Maizie watched the crowds jumping up and down yelling I could tell she was thinking, "Why are all those people screaming at her?" We may be a ways off before we could attend a tween music concert. Or like everything else...I may be totally surprised.

Play Doh, Respect and Chuck E. Cheese

I got a text this morning from my friend Mindy who has been job searching for a long time. She found a job! I am truly happy for her and at the same time I wanted to cry. I had so enjoyed hanging out with her a day a week or so. Maralyn and Maizie were playing great together. Some days it can get kinda lonely being an at home mom. I know that I have other friends to hang with but Mindy has always worked full time. So being able to spend this much time together was great. Oh, well. We just have to go back to lunches, evenings or weekends. Obviously my moping is not what is important. The most important thing is Mindy found a job! I am really happy for her. I will miss her and the kids though.

After lunch Maizie and I went over to Janeen's house. Maizie and Savonna played with playdoh. Savonna likes to eat playdoh. Every time Janeen would walk out of the room she would grab a little tiny glob of green play doh, lick it and pop it in her mouth. It was quite entertaining to watch. I tried to discourage her playdoh eating fun but she really did not seem to take my advice. The lure of the doh was too intense!

Once back home Maizie went back to playing her out of tune lap harp. I was in the kitchen when Maizie spells out my name.

Maizie:M. O. M.!!!!!!

Marla:(laughing) What?

Maizie:I DON'T think you will laugh when I tell you this.

Marla: (Silence...wondering what went wrong....immediately picturing my lap top wet again.)

Maizie: I didn't treat the harp respectfully.

I just love love love the way she spoke about not treating it respectfully. Too cute!

One of the strings had snapped. Maizie was so afraid of getting in trouble. Joe was able to fix it easily. Tonight when I went to take it to Brian's to be tuned she said, "I sure hope he does not lose it!"

Can you tell she loves the harp? Tonight when we got it back she went to bed with it. It sounds fantastic! Thank goodness for musically inclined friends.
Before dinner we needed some fun. The ongoing rain, cold and wind led us to want some play time. We went somewhere we never ever take Maizie. Maizie seemed up for the challenge. Chuck E. Cheese!

Luckily on a week night it was not too crowded. Maizie's eyes glazed over when we first arrived. Sitting down and drinking some sodas while she soaked in the atmosphere helped a bit. Once she got used to the noise and lights it was play time.

Every picture I took Maizie has the look of total concentration. Check out her blog for more photos from tonight. I had fun playing some of the games. The bouncy riding ones made both Joe I feel a little nauseous. Lordy, we must be getting older!

Okay, I could write more but I really need to focus on Nip/Tuck.
